The month of May is filled with vibrant fiestas ac

The month of May is filled with vibrant fiestas across the Philippines; the Pahiyas Festival being the most colorful of them all. Pahiyas literally means “precious offering”, and also takes its name from the word payas, meaning decoration.

Originally a pagan festivity after a bountiful harvest, the Pahiyas Festival is now celebrated around May 15, in honor of San Isidro de Labrador, the patron saint of farmers.

During this time, the people of Lucban, Quezon decorate their houses with colorful fruits, vegetables, local handicrafts, and kiping, or rice wafers, as thanksgiving for a successful and abundant harvest.

Processions, parades, art and music exhibitions are also held. This wonderful, unique tradition attracts tourists from all over the Philippines and the world.
