About Sentro Rizal
On June 28, 2011, in celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, Sentro Rizal was formally established by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). Sentro Rizal aims to promote Philippine arts, culture, and language around the world through the establishment of SR Centers in various countries.
About the performers
The Philippine Madrigal Singers or the Madz has sought to serve as an advocate for preservation, protection, and promotion of Philippine music. It has encouraged the creation of new musical compositions and ushered in the birth of new composers or arrangers. It is also in this light – of clearly realizing the group’s responsibility to the nation as its premiere choral group – that the Madz also works to serve as a living repository of masterpieces composed by eminent artists of the nation.
About the album
“ALPAS: Awit at Letra ng mga Pambansang Alagad ng Sining” is intended to be such a repository of works done by either a National Artist for Music, or by a National Artist for Literature whose work had been transformed into a wonderful work of music.
